A New Year, a New Goal

Over a year has passed since my last update here. 2006 included an amazing number of changes. If 2007 is anything like this past year, then I shudder to think where I will be, or what I will be doing.

One thing is certain - I have set for myself an extraordinary goal: Training for and Winning the 24-hour Inline Race in Montreal in July... solo. While teams of up to ten skaters are encouraged to register, lone souls, like myself, will be challenging themselves to do the unthinkable.

I have no doubt I can complete the full 24 hours -- I know few who can suffer, or who would choose to suffer, like I can. So I've got a great advantage when it comes to the mental aspect. To complement that, I'll need to train my body better than I've ever trained before. I've already started working on my foundation - hitting the gym five days last week, and I hope to keep that up for the next few months (I suspect I'll be doing two-a-days at some point).

In the meantime, I'll be learning more, building a support crew from my network, and taking all other steps necessary to prepare for this event. I want to win. As Ricky Bobby would say, "If you ain't first, you're last!"

187 days to go. Somehow, I feel like it will be just enough.

Best wishes to you as you complete goals of your own in 2007!
